The reuse of research data (datasets) is one of the FAIR principles. When writing your project, it is advisable to draw up an inventory of datasets related to your discipline, for the following reasons:
- Existing data can form the basis of your research
- You can examine the need for new data
- If you are planning to collect or generate data, you need to make sure at an early stage that the same data has not already been collected
- You can find out if there are any norms and standards to follow for structure, drawing and documentation
